There are other therapies that can be very helpful for people with Parkinson’s disease:
Physiotherapy can help you learn new ways of performing tasks such as walking and standing up. Physiotherapists also work with patients to reduce the effects of stiff muscles, increase muscle strength and decrease the risk of falls by teaching specific exercises. A physiotherapist may also be able to recommend certain aids or adaptations to your home that can help make everyday tasks easier. Speech therapy can help people whose voice may have become softer or less clear as the disease progresses.
Counselling allows you to explore problems and distress in relation to Parkinson’s disease in a private and confidential setting. The counsellor can then advise on coping strategies.
